Welcome to my homepage
I'm a Research Scientist and Computer Data Processing Specialist at the Water-Energy-Food Institute. I love building and programming computer systems that process massive amounts of data and massage them into visually stunning 3D and multidimensional models. My core research focuses on geospatial representation, volume rendering (Seismic, X-ray CT, and Radar), and point cloud processing (LiDAR, Sonar, and GPR). I’m also experienced in setting up visualization labs, multimedia labs, and high-end video conferencing systems. I am always excited to work with new and diverse computer systems.
Research
I translate complex scientific data into clear, compelling visualizations. By combining compute cluster and cloud programming with cross-disciplinary collaboration, I help researchers across academia and industry cut through oceans of confusing numbers and uncover hidden insights.Outreach
I believe that the best way to learn complex research is by interacting with it. During outreach events, I present scientific data through immersive 3D computing environments. By building custom visualization systems and writing specialized code, I allow audiences to navigate and understand complex scientific phenomena for themselves interactively. My goal is to make science education visually captivating, scientifically accurate, and truly unforgettable.
High Performance Computing
Over the span of 20 years I have maintained and managed many compute clusters. In the recent past I was responsible for two high performance compute clusters. One cluster was a hybrid with three different sets of processing hardware. This used a combination of Dell blades, IBM servers, and Nvida Tesla GPUs. The resulting hybrid clusters gave researchers a variety of parallel computing tools to solve complex problems. Another cluster was all Dell and was designed to process and filter large volumetric seismic data. This same Dell cluster was also used to process massive point clouds from LIDAR and photogrammetry data originating from terrestrial and aerial remote sensing scanners. I have been building, managing, and programming on high performance computers for over 20 years and enjoy watching systems like this solve complex problems in a day that would normally take a year.
Visualization
I love taking complex multidimensional data sets, processing them using HPC and then having the results be visually pleasing and easier to understand. What I do is take the graphical representation of numerical data, physical phenomena, and computer simulations. Then transforms abstract data into visual 3D images to help researchers analyze, understand, and interpret complex scientific information in ways previously impossible.
